Election fever picked up in Karimnagar district on Friday Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi and TRS president K. Chandrashekhar Rao campaigning on Friday.
Both the leaders have made whirl-wind tour by heli-hopping to various parts of the district and addressing meetings. Mr. Chiranjeevi flew in from Bejjanki mandal headquarters to Karimnagar town and addressed meetings in Choppadandi, Husnabad, Sircilla, Jammikunta mandals.
AICC president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s visit to Karimnagar town on Tuesday has boosted the morale of the Congress rank and file in general and the contesting candidates in particular.
Though, the Congress is ahead of others in electioneering, the success of their party president’s meeting and her statement on Telangana statehood has pepped up the campaign in the district.

It is indeed a testing time for Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate Chada Venkat Reddy. The newly-formed Husnabad Assembly constituency, has V. Lakshmikantha Rao, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) nominee and another Grand Alliance partner, also in the fray along with him, though the seat has been allotted to the CPI.
Both -- the CPI and TRS -- candidates are claiming to be the real nominees of the alliance, leaving the rank and file of their ally, the Telugu Desam, in confusion.
The Godavarikhani police have seized Rs. 6,900 cash and 17 cricket kits from a Congress worker’s house, suspected to belong to Government Whip and Congress nominee from Manthani Assembly segment D. Sridhar Babu, in Manthani town on Sunday night. Following a complaint lodged by PR leaders, the Godavarikhani two town police raided the house.
