TDP State secretary Gandra Nalini and her husband former district president Gandra Venkateshwar Rao have found fault with the TDP for not allocating the party tickets to the women candidates in north Telangana region in general and Karimnagar district in particular. Nalini, who contested in 2004 elections from Karimnagar Assembly segment and was defeated by Congress senior leader M. Satyanarayana Rao, her husband Venkateshwara Rao have aspired for the party ticket from the Karimnagar Assembly constituency. But, in unusual manner, the TDP leader Gangula Kamalakar was allocated the party ticket during the last minute adjustments with grand alliance. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Nalini along with her husband Venkateshwar Rao said that they had expressed their disappointment and disillusionment over the allocation of party ticket to Kamalakar and sent the letter to party president N. Chandrababu Naidu. They blamed the TDP president for succumbing to pressure from some vested interest groups in the allocation of party ticket in the Karimnagar Assembly segment. Clarifying that they were not against the party, they said that “it is unfortunate that the party had neglected the women in the allocation of party tickets”. Nalini charged that some leaders of the party were scared of her victory and out of insecurity played the cheap politics denying her the party ticket. Asked whether they would campaign for the party in the elections, they said that they would take an appropriate and constructive decision only after talking to Mr. Chandrababu Naidu. Senior TDP leaders K. Agaiah, the Telugu Mahila Morcha leaders also supported their cause. |
